In addition to offering individual and group courses at all levels, the Alliance Francaise de Chicago hosts a variety of events, including lectures. One upcoming lecture is The Invention of French Restaurants and Food Pairing, led by Rebecca Spang, a history professor and author, and Richard Shepro, an attorney and scholar in economics, law, and food history.
Rebecca Spaing will answer fascinating questions about the history of restaurants, which became a symbol of wealth among the aristocracy of 18th century Paris. Richard Shepro will discuss his research on food and wine pairing, which he published for the Oxford Symposium on Food & Cookery. Attendees will learn about the four main pairing methods and explore the history of modern ideas about pairing food and wine.
The lecture will take place on Feb. 13, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. at the Alliance Francaise’s events location, 54 West Chicago Avenue.
